Lisa Hoffman Takes Off

As the wife of renowned actor Dustin Hoffman, Lisa Hoffman spends a good deal of time in flight or on the road. Her biggest packing challenge has been to corral her skincare products—cleanser, toner, day and night creams and more—into a tiny tote. Frustrated, Hoffman (left) took on a role of her own: cosmetics creator. Launched in January 2007, Lisa Hoffman Night & Day 24 Hour Skincare features single-dose ampoules labeled by regime (day or night) and step (1 through 5): these are joined together in a handy packette ($20). For those stretches spent at home, Hoffman created full sized products, too ($30-$150). Here, the entrepreneur shares with Town & Country five thing that makes her feel beautiful.

  1. When my skin looks its fifty-two-year-old best. Hoffman’s packettes are flight friendly, and with her busy schedule, they’re a carry-on necessity for keeping her skin in tip-top shape. “Before I land, I complete the five step regimen. The cleanser doesn’t require water—it wipes off with a tissue—and the whole process takes only thirty seconds.”
  2. When I can fit into my oldest pair of jeans. Hoffman’s a big fan of Pilates. “At home, in L.A., I see Pilates trainer Mari Winsor three times a week. When I’m out of town, I take her 20-Minute Winsor Pilates Circle Workout DVD with me, and I try to do some cardio every other day—walking, bicycling, whatever is available.”
  3. When my naturally curly hair curls just right. “My hair has a mind of it’s own,” she says, but Kerastase’s Oleo-Curl line keeps her ringlets bouncy. Every now and then, as in the photo at left Hoffman opts for a blowout.
  4. Taking the time to luxuriate in a good book. “Right now I’m reading Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. My all-time-favorite author is Gabriel Garcia Marquez.”
  5. The look in my husband’s eyes when he first sees me each morning. And that’s before Hoffman’s minimal make-up routine: she disguises dark circles with Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Radiant Touch concealer in #2, lengthens her lashes with Shu Uemura mascara and sweeps on Stila Lip Glaze in Passion Fruit to complete her day look.
